Aimee Fisher claimed another World Cup gold medal winning the Women’s K1 1000m final at the 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint & Paracanoe World Cup last Montreal over the weekend.
It was a dominant performance by Fisher, who won the race by over 3 seconds ahead of Hungary’s Zsoka Csikos and Germany’s Caroline Heuser.
Aimee followed up the next day with a 4th place finish in the women’s K1 500m A final.
Scott Martlew also secured a 4th place in his KL2 500m paracanoe event, a strong result at his first international outing this year and earning valuable qualification points towards LA2028 Paralympics.
Quaid Thompson was back at the pointy end of the field in the Mens K1 5000m race, finishing 6th overall, his best result at world cups so far this year. He also raced in the Men’s K1 1000m B final, finishing 7th (16th overall).
The NZ men’s K4 finished 8th in their 500m semifinal, unfortunatley not advancing further. It was the first international event for this crew combination and a vital racing and learning experience for this young men’s crew.
