Bay of Plenty set for 10KM series opener

There is more than one reason to celebrate this Matariki Holiday weekend, with the 2022 Kayak Krazy 10KM series getting underway in Bay of Plenty this Saturday.

The Bay of Plenty leg is the first of the series hosted by clubs around the country, with over 200 paddlers expected to hit the water during this year’s series.

First held in 2011, the series grown in popularity. The 2022 Kayak Krazy Series winds its way around the country, culminating in the Championships in Rotorua on September 17.

Karen Simpson, CRNZ’s Event Manager, said the 10KM Series is such a great event to keep people excited about paddling during winter.

“It’s a fun way to get around the country, visit other clubs and see how you’re stacking up against others.

“It’s a long time between our summer sprint events so seeing everyone engaging in the Kayak Krazy events is just fantastic.”

Participants can race for fun or join in on two events (minimum) plus the Champs to be eligible for a Series win. All paddlers who attend the Champs in Rotorua go in to win spot prizes.

2.5km | Tyros (12 and under)
5km | U14, U16
10km | U18, Open, Masters, Ski, Multisport & K2
*Note: Masters divisions will be split into 35-44, 45-54, 55+ if there are sufficient entries for each age group (2 or more)
