Canoe Racing NZ recognises the importance of health and wellbeing for all individuals involved in our sport.

Performance sport can be tough so it’s vital that athletes, coaches and support teams are supported throughout their journey in sport. A strong support network – including clubs, schools, coaches, CRNZ, whanau and supporters – play a crucial role in helping people transition sustainably into, during, and beyond competitive sport.

If you have concerns or questions related to your involvement in paddling, we encourage open communication. Addressing issues early ensures a safe and positive environment for all athletes.

Please see the following link containing what athletes can expect when joining the Canoe Racing New Zealand Pathway or High Performance Squads:

The Mental Health Continuum Model:

The Mental Health Continuum is a useful way to understand how mental health changes in response to increased stressors. Athletes, like most people, move in either direction on the continuum in response to the normal ups and downs of daily life. What becomes of critical concern is if an athlete becomes stuck in the red zone. Please review the model, monitor your mental health, and complete the relevant action.
